“Do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ (…) Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” (Mt 6:31-32)
Very often in Scripture we are warned not to give in to worry, for then we easily lose sight of any way out. Worries can constantly accompany us, gnawing at our vitality, and we look out at the world with a “gloomy” gaze. They are already there in the morning, and they do not leave us even in the evening.
That is not how the Lord wants to see us. Instead, He invites us to trust in Him and cast our cares upon Him (cf. 1 Pet 5:7). We must, however, actually do this; otherwise, the above word cannot be realized. This requires a certain effort and overcoming of ourselves, for paradoxically, it can happen that we cling to our worries. The mindset of the “constantly worried” person then becomes like a false identity—a plague.
God knows our situation and does not simply overlook it. He wants to encourage us to turn to Him and let us know that in Him there is always a way out.
The difficulty in this “overly anxious state” lies in the fact that we easily forget the Lord because the momentum of our worries consumes us too much. That is why it is important to remember God’s loving presence, which can transform everything. Simply looking to our Father, speaking to Him, sharing our worries with Him, and making an act of trust—this may free us from our inner tension and clear the way to receive our Father’s loving presence and thus find peace.
