“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.” (Mark 11:24)
Prayer is a profound conversation with God. By promising that our prayers will be answered, God gives us a great gift and shows us His love. This is actually very simple and inviting for us, if we have faith.
Our Father has not chosen a complicated path for us; otherwise, He would not have set before us a child as an example, for we are called to trust God with the simplicity of a child.
The difficulties lie elsewhere. Often we seek the security of our lives in our own achievements and abilities. Perhaps the very idea of being so dependent on God that—as Jesus says—we can do nothing without Him is foreign to us. If that is foreign to us, then there is something we have not yet truly understood. Realizing the truth—that we have received everything from a loving Father—does not rob us of personal freedom but rather grants it to us.
If we do not understand this, it becomes clear why prayer does not hold the place of importance it deserves. For prayer is the clear confession that we are subject to a Higher Power and that we ask Him for what we need. When this prayer is accompanied by strong faith, we, so to speak, leave our own security behind and bind ourselves to God. When this happens, the way is open for God’s gift. Then, through our faith, we release what the Father’s love has intended for us, and we will receive everything with gratitude.
