“Any false unity that is not founded in Me cannot endure and will crumble.” (Inner word)
We humans long for unity, and when we find it, great peace enters our souls—first with God, and then with other people.
Yet there is one condition for true unity. It can exist only in truth and is therefore founded on God Himself. Certainly, there are many interest groups and various forms of associations. But these are only peripheral in nature and therefore cannot reach the depth that true unity embodies.
We ourselves realize that we are not in full unity with our Heavenly Father if we do not open ourselves to Him from the deepest recesses of our hearts. Then we always lack the healing, natural self-evidence of love, which has its root in truth. There are paths to this unity and stages along the way. Yet we must not stop short of striving to attain full unity with God, which is the foundation of all further forms of unified life.
Within the Church as well, there is an inner and natural unity of faith that unites us Catholics and makes us brothers and sisters, together with the heavenly and suffering Church. This unity exists when we practice the faith authentically in love. It is a pre‑established unity into which we enter and within which we live. It is violated when we relativize the truth of the faith or follow errors. The holy bond with the Lord is then no longer intact and may even be broken as a result.
