“If I were to list all the signs of Your love, I would fail. Even if I had the tongues of all people and angels, I could not describe the gifts of nature, grace, or glory that flow from You” (St. Bonaventure).
How glorious God must be, if even a saint like Bonaventure—who was very close to Him—confesses that he cannot describe God’s glory! Perhaps it is better to say that precisely because he encountered God more deeply, he lacks the words to describe His glory.
Bonaventure is right: it is too high for us!
Yet this is precisely a reason to rejoice, for we are allowed to journey toward God’s glory day by day. Here on earth, we can take delight in all that faith enables us to recognize. Even now, we can sing the praise of our heavenly Father—from whom all glory comes—through our very lives, proclaim His infinite love, and invite people to respond to His love.
We have been entrusted with passing on what people need in order to enter this glorious life that lies ahead, which already begins here.
We can ask our Father that all people may come to know Him as He truly is, and that their eyes may be opened so that they may recognize the glory of God in the face of Christ.
We can do all of this with zeal, to glorify the One whose fullness we cannot even begin to describe.
Our Father will lead us to the place where we will see Him face to face. If we set our hearts on this, our joy in God will awaken in others a longing for their divine Father.
