“My dear children, I have lavished these gifts upon you with special graces for twenty centuries, but with what miserable results!”
By “these gifts,” our Father means, as stated earlier in the text, the Seven Sacraments and, in particular, the Cross of Jesus, for it “is the Cross, My Son’s Blood poured out upon you every moment, if you so wish, both in the Sacrament of Penance and in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” (Father’s Booklet)
The result of God’s efforts is very meager! Is it better today than it was a hundred years ago? Hardly. We must rather assume that it has gotten worse. If one does not close one’s eyes, one unfortunately sees a decline in faith and its corresponding practice almost everywhere, a trend that has intensified once again in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Modernism has also “eaten its way” into the Church and is weakening the faith, sometimes even beyond recognition!
Our Heavenly Father, on the other hand, never ceases to reveal Himself to humanity and to call out to it. Nor does He hide from us the consequences when His offers of love are not accepted, and we can sense the pain in His Fatherly Heart: “How many of My creatures, who become children of My love through My Son, have quickly thrown themselves into the eternal abyss! Truly, they have not known My infinite goodness; I love you so very much.”
What can our response to this fatherly lament be? The answer is obvious. We must not let “these gifts” and God’s graces pass us by, but rather make use of them and tell people what a good Father they have. They should recognize how deeply they are loved and allow themselves to be found by God’s infinite goodness. May this open their eyes!
