“It is a crime to disturb peace where truth reigns. It is a crime to remain at peace while destroying the truth. Therefore, truth is the guiding principle and the ultimate goal of all things.” (Blaise Pascal)
In His all-important words, which we should never forget or downplay, the Lord makes it clear: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).
We live by this word, and it moves us to align everything with the truth and to proclaim the One who is Truth Himself. While Blaise Pascal’s words can certainly be applied to many situations, they carry special significance in the religious context of our reflections on the Father.
True peace can arise only when it is in harmony with the truth. All people are called to this truth. True peace comes when a person recognizes, worships, and loves our Heavenly Father. The Son of God has opened this path for us and frees us from sin and error.
True peace will not arise on a human level. Nor can the cooperation of different religions bring this about, because there is a lack of recognition of the One who is the Truth and was sent by the Heavenly Father for the salvation of mankind. There is even a risk of being deceived by a “false peace” if it comes at the expense of the truth and if errors in other religions are not overcome.
Our Father has opened the door wide for all people and reveals Himself through Jesus. Everyone is called to know the truth. We must ensure that this truth is passed on unadulterated, so that “false princes of peace” do not seek to destroy the truth.
