“The Lord seeks a heart filled to overflowing with love for God and our neighbour; this is the throne on which He loves to sit and on which He appears in the fullness of His heavenly glory. ‘Son, give Me thy heart,’ He says, ‘and all the rest I Myself will add to thee (Prov. 23:26; Matt. 6:33),’ for in the human heart the Kingdom of God can be contained.” (Seraphim of Sarov).
As Seraphim of Sarov says, when our Father finds an open heart, He transforms it into a temple of His glory. There He desires to dwell and establish the reign of His love. Through our hearts, He also desires to love others. His love transforms our hearts, and makes them capable of love. His love is like a radiant light that shines in our hearts and seeks to dispel all darkness. Everything else will flow from there.
In this way, God could dwell in the hearts of all people and expand His kingdom. Thus, our life together as children of the same heavenly Father would attain the splendor intended for the kingdom of God on earth, just as we ask daily in the Lord’s Prayer.
It’s not that difficult to put this into practice, and it’s also easy to understand. The difficulty lies in the fact that our hearts remain attached to so many things, and we haven’t surrendered them completely to God yet. Perhaps this is because we haven’t truly come to know the love of our Heavenly Father. What is holding us back?
In closing, I’d like to share a short prayer with you. I invite you to pray it with our spiritual family:
“Beloved Father, we ask for the peace that flows from Your heart so that it may touch and transform the hearts of all people and thus Your kingdom may spread throughout the earth. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord! Amen.”
