“ALL FAULTS ARE CAST INTO ETERNAL OBLIVION”

“When God looks upon a soul with eyes of mercy and bends down to forgive it, all its faults are cast into eternal oblivion” (St. Matilda of Hackeborn).

We will never tire of hearing how great our Heavenly Father’s desire is to forgive the sins of mankind! We should allow this certainty to sink deep into our hearts. Since God is like this, we must not lose hope—neither in ourselves nor in others. Our Father seeks out humanity and leaves no stone unturned so that souls may respond to the courtship of His love and awaken from their slumber.

Can we even imagine it? Sins are completely forgiven!

“Today you will be with me in Paradise!” (Luke 23:43), Jesus assures the criminal crucified beside Him when the man turns to Him. Because of Jesus, God forgives even our most serious sins if we turn to Him.

This fact alone makes our holy faith incomparable and should motivate us to proclaim it tirelessly. We should also bring up this truth again and again in dialogue with representatives of other religions. Thanks to God’s love and forgiveness, everyone can find hope and rise again.

How comforting this teaching is, how healing for tormented hearts and for all those who encounter Jesus and receive from Him the gift of forgiveness: eternal forgetting!

Once we are forgiven, our sins will no longer be held against us. God’s love has melted away all their bitterness and darkness. It has breathed new life into our hearts.

We will be with this Father, who looks upon us through His beloved Son, for all eternity. The Lord has prepared a place for us in the Father’s house (Jn 14:2–3). When we arrive, we will share in the immeasurable joy of heaven. Sin will no longer exist. What a prospect!
