“FIRST, THE FATHER!”

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” (Col 1:12)

This is how the praise of God begins in the so-called Christ Hymn in the Letter to the Colossians. It serves as a reminder that all the graces we are privileged to receive through the Son of God come from our Heavenly Father. Therefore, it is right that we not overlook this, but, just as the prayers in the Holy Mass are always addressed to our divine Father, turn back to God our Father in joy, praise, and thanksgiving for everything.

God Himself draws our attention to this in the Little Book of the Father, for He wishes to lead us to a more complete worship of God by having us, like the Apostle Paul, thank Him with all our hearts for what He gives us, especially through His Son.

What great goodness we encounter when we share in the inheritance of the saints who are in the light! Through them, God opens up a deep fellowship for us. They are our true brothers and sisters in the Spirit. Since they live in complete harmony with God, their light is unclouded, and our fellowship with them brings their light into our souls. They desire to be united with us, their brothers and sisters who are still on the path to eternity.

Just as we learn and experience ever more deeply on our journey how graciously our Father has prepared the paths of salvation, so too do we come to understand more and more the dignity He bestows upon His children. Simply through our shared love for God, we already belong to the saints who are united with our Father forever in the vision of God.

Our everlasting gratitude toward our Heavenly Father will gradually open our eyes to all that He does for us and to who He is. When we accept the invitation to sing of His glory together with the angels and the saints, we draw ever closer to our future and know: The very best is yet to come!
