“The innermost connection with me is necessary and the key to spiritual resistance.” (Inner Word).
We must never forget that we are not simply at the mercy of evil, but are called to resist it. This is also a way for us to demonstrate our faithfulness to our Heavenly Father. As long as everything in our following of Christ proceeds without major complications, it is easy to follow the Lord. However, even when it seems easy, we must be careful not to become overconfident. Spiritual wisdom demands this of us.
However, we must prepare ourselves for the battle that is waged on various levels. This battle, though, is not primarily fought with our willpower. That would fail. Rather, it is led by the Lord, who stands by us with His grace and strengthens us in everything. Therefore, the innermost connection with the Lord is the key to overcoming the great battles we may face against evil spirits, our disordered inclinations, and the temptations of the world. We will only be able to overcome these battles if we ensure that our inner connection with the Lord remains unbroken and grows ever deeper.
The same is true of major crises that befall the world when it turns away from God and His commandments. All the more must we draw our security and resilience from our intimate relationship with our Father. And this is all the more true when we do not receive the help we need in serious crisis situations from those in leadership positions within the Church. The key to lasting resilience is our relationship with our Heavenly Father.
